DEFECTED WELCOMES KID FONQUE AS HEAD OF A&R

Following a vibrant career in electronic music from DJ to Label Manager at the legendary Soul Candi Records, we are delighted to announce that Kid Fonque (aka Allan Nicoll) has joined our ever-expanding team as Head of A&R.

A proud pioneer of South African and Mzsansi house music, Kid Fonque launched Stay True Sounds in 2016 with fellow producer Jullian Gomes. The label played a pivotal role in launching the careers of many SA artists including China Charmeleon, SGVO, Bruce Loko, Dwson, Jazzuelle, Hypaphonik, Chronical Deep, Fka Mash and more.

As part of Kid Fonque’s relocation from SA to London, Stay True Sounds will join our catalogue of sub-labels - ensuring that the creator stays close to the project.

“Stay True Sounds is only going to grow globally with the support of Defected. As part of my international journey, Stay True Sounds will be joining the Defected stable and I’ll continue to rep South Africa. Equally important, I will still have the opportunity to make numerous trips home each year to continue sourcing and plugging South African talent into Europe.” – Kid Fonque

Speaking of the acquisition, Simon Dunmore said: “I have been impressed with Allan since his days at Soul Candi, his progress as Stay True Sounds label owner and Selective Styles radio presenter dovetail perfectly into Defected’s existing structure. Moving from South Africa to relocate in London shows real commitment I am excited by the prospect of working alongside him.”

Following Wez Saunders’ appointment as CEO in August last year, founder and former CEO Simon Dunmore will continue with us in his new role as A&R consultant; working alongside Kid Fonque and Saunders and continuing to bring exceptional house music to a global audience.
